maggie and milly and molly and may
went down to the beach (to play one day)
and maggie discovered a shell that sang
so sweetly she couldn't remember her troubles, and
milly befriended a stranded star
whose rays five languid fingers were;
and molly was chased by a horrid thing
which raced sideways while blowing bubbles; and
may came home with a smooth round stone
as small as a world and as large as alone.
for whatever we lose (like a you or a me)
it's always ourselves we find in the sea.

Well, Evelyn's Courant shawl (from Berroco #286 Mica) is complete but has yet to be gifted since I spent last weekend being nurse to a sick son instead of spending the weekend at the shore celebrating her birthday. But there will be other weekends. I am hoping to give her the shawl this week after it is wrapped. I haven't photographed it yet but hope to post pictures this week.
The pattern wasn't difficult and I'm looking forward to making one for myself. I wasn't sure how much it would stretch after washing. Let me just say, it's a good thing she's tall. I know now that it will wrap around as shown in the picture.
In the meantime, I have started my Birch shawl by Sharon Miller (published in Rowan 34). If you are a Ravelry member, you can see some great photos of the finished shawl there. This photo is borrowed from the pattern, which calls for Kidsilk.
I am using Misti Alpaca hand painted sock yarn, fingering weight, that I purchased at the Webs sale last August.
