When I received the e-mail on Friday that Stockinette, the new knitting cafe in Jersey City, had opened, I made a detour after work to stop in and check it out. And I'm glad I did. It is a lovely little shop and Gynine, (that's her behind the counter) makes you feel welcome as soon as you walk in the door.
I can't remember all the yarns but I know there was a good selection of Debbie Bliss and a yarn I had never used, Punta Yarns from Uruguay. Of course I had decided I was going to just browse, but we know how that works. So I ended up falling in love with and buying the Classic Elite book, Alpaca Stories.
The book contained a pattern for a shawl sweater that I've wanted to make since I saw a woman wearing it over the BAKG weekend. I have purchased various styles of the shawl sweater, but none were exactly what I wanted. So when I saw this one, I realized it was exactly right. I knew I couldn't leave with just the book so I purchased all the yarn that night. And now it is a work in progress.
The yarn is the Punta Yarn and actually a very deep purple and not the lavender color in the picture. As I post my progress, I am sure the actual color will show up.
I also cannot forget to let you know that I received a call from Gynine yesterday regarding the question we were having concerning being taxed on the purchase of yarn. It was Gynine's first day as a shop owner and all her questions had not been answered by her accountant. A few of us were making purchases that night and she took everyone's name and phone number and said if her accountant told her she did not have to charge tax, she would have the money put aside for us. And that is exactly what happened. She called me to say that she had met with her accountant and there was an envelope with a refund waiting for me at the shop.
But I have saved the absolute best for last, yes, the shop is lovely, the yarns are beautiful, the books new, the owners welcoming and the pastries and coffee absolutely delicious but here is the most wonderful thing about the shop....
the garden.

What a beautiful place to be able to sit, have coffee, and knit. Welcome to the neighborhood Stockinette. We're happy you're here!
