I love Lilies of the Valley and have always loved this shawl from Fiddlesticks but I am afraid it is going to turn into one of those projects that will sit in a bag and never be completed. Today I found these socks from KnitPicks, which may be a better project for me.
I am always grateful when I find a patch
of Lily of the Valley. When planning my wedding, my heart was set on a bouquet of these little white flowers. Unfortunately, many (many) years ago this was not an option for an August bride.
So each time I am lucky enough to be at a flower market in the Spring, I buy a small bouquet and bring them home. My fondest memory is a business trip to Poland during May, and being in Zakopane during a market day.
There were bunches upon bunches of lily of the valley for sale. So I purchased lots of little bouquets and placed them all over my hotel room. My co-workers thought I was bit insane since we would only be there overnight . Even so, I have alway remembered my visit to Zakopane and the beautiful night I spent there.
So you can imagine how happy I was about two weeks ago, when I walked past the church garden and had to catch my breath because right there on the other side of the fence were hundreds of Lilies of the Valley.
I could not contain myself from reaching under the fence to bring home a few stems.
(This Saturday I got the key to the garden and picked few more and carefully placed them in the car for the ride home.
But the season is ending and most of the flowers are turning brown. Knowing how much I admire all the Lilies of the Valley
in everyone's yards, my good friend Evelyn, who was Maid of Honor, planted some last year in her front yard and was blessed with this one stem, which I am sure will multiply by next Spring.
